Within the clinical environment, the technology is often referred to as laser Doppler flowmetry; when images are made, it is referred to as laser Doppler imaging. Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) measures cerebral blood flow (CBF) at a single point on the cortical surface using a confocal laser and detector pair. This method can easily be incorporated into the experimental setup to provide information on CBF, a hemodynamic variable not directly assessable by optical imaging. The purpose of the study is using a laser Doppler imaging device (Easy-LDI) as an additional tool to assess perfusion. In this method, the changes in the frequency of the laser ligth provide information regarding perfusion of the monitored tissue. Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) can be used to measure superficial blood flow in the skin and other vascularized tissues. A laser Doppler perfusion imager functions by projecting a visible-to- infrared laser beam onto the surface of a tissue.
